Ian has been studying martial arts for over 25 years and, under the instruction of 15th Dan Shihan Brin Morgan, received his Shodan in 1989. Ian has travelled to Japan on a number of occasions to study directly under Soke Hatsumi. He was awarded the rank of 12th Dan in April 2008 by Soke Hatsumi while training at the Hombu Dojo.

Ian has taught seminars across Europe including Belgium and Germany and opened the Fighting Fit Martial Arts Centre in July 2008.
