Available therapies:
SWEDISH MASSAGE (passive)
Massage helps to release and stretch muscles and whilst increasing blood flow and clearing out toxins stored in these muscles. This helps to lower blood pressure, reduces tension and balances the body’s lymph and blood systems. This relaxation and increase in fluid flows speed up the recovery process of injuries and improves overall muscle/skin tone and flexibility. Although Swedish massage can be aimed at certain areas it is a general passive whole body technique.
SPORTS MASSAGE (reactive)
Sports Massage covers three main categories –
- Pre-event sports massage therapy warms up the muscles – getting the blood circulation going and allowing longer workout with reduced risk of injury, increased flexibility and greater range of motion. Post-event sports massage therapy relieves muscle cramps and spasm, jumpstarting the process of removing lactic acid and metabolic build up in muscles that occur with exercise.
- Maintenance massage is designed to help the athlete reach peak performance through a routine program of massage. Maintenance sports massage recharges and renews the body and reduces the risk of injury. These benefits are valuable not only for athletes, but for anyone who works out on a regular basis.
- Rehabilitation sports massage therapy increases flexibility and range of motion, reducing muscle scar tissue formation, muscle soreness, stiffness, cramps and pain. Rehabilitation massage aids in the management of both acute and chronic injuries.
Sports massages are more active than Swedish massage and can be designed to aim at specific areas relevant to your sport or to problem or injured areas of the body.
The benefits of sports massage are similar to general massage, but with additional benefits
- Higher levels of energy /Boosts performance
- Prevents injuries and loss of mobility
- Cures and restore mobility to injured muscle tissue
- Extends the overall life of your sporting career
- Reduces chronic pain
DEEP TISSUE AND NEURO-MUSCULAR MASSAGE (active)
These massage techniques are aimed at removing specific areas or injuries by manipulating and relaxing deep tissue tears, scars and problem injuries. This type of massage releases trigger points, straightens out crossed fibres, reduces scar tissue and helps the release and movement of the individual muscle fibres. This type of massage is proactive and in some instances the points pressed can create very short term pain however the pressure used can be customised to fit with how your body reacts although many people enjoy the releasing feeling received with this type of healing.
SHIATSU
With its roots in Japan, and in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu uses relaxed body weight, applied with the fingers, thumbs, elbows, knees, and hands to stimulate or sedate the energy flowing through the body and to promote the body’s self-healing. Receivers remain fully clothed and shiatsu is traditionally performed on a futon, or comfortable floor mat, but can be adapted for working on both chairs and massage tables
Shiatsu helps to maintain overall health and encourages people to listen more keenly to what the body is saying. The body has a great ability to self-heal, but sometimes it needs assistance to remove the blockages getting in the way of the healing process.
Developments in modern science are increasingly able to show how this kind of energy medicine works and this is even now being used in hospitals world wide.
INJURY / REHAB COMBINED SESSIONS
Many injuries occur due to long term problems which over time become chronic and weaken the body which can then cause a specific injury. In this case and also with general injuries there is never one particular method which will solve the issue and it is better to use a combined approach of multiple methods during sessions which we change over the sessions as the body heals.
ACUPUNCTURE
Your health and well-being can be greatly improved by acupuncture, as it is a safe and effective method of treatment for many common ailments. Acupuncture encourages the body to promote natural healing and improve functioning. This is done by inserting very thin needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at precise points of the body.
TUI NA (proactive)
Tui Na (pronounced ‘twee-nah’) massage is a complete healing system, but can also be combined with other systems such as Acupuncture. Tui Na is applied to your clothed body and patients sit on a chair or lie on a couch. Tui Na is a proactive form of massage and manipulation which unlike many remedies deals with chronic paid of both the muscular and skeletal systems together. In China, Tui Na therapists treat conditions that, in the West, would be treated by osteopaths, chiropractors and physiotherapists or with drugs. Tui Na also improves the overall Qi status of the body and therefore headaches, migraines, IBS, constipation, PMS and a whole range of emotional problems also improve with a Tui Na therapy.
Acupuncture can be used to treat many physical conditions and emotional or psychological problems and treats the whole person (not just the symptoms) on a physical, mental and emotional level. This means that treatment of physical problems can also affect the way you feel about yourself.
You will also find your immune system is better able to withstand flu, colds and other minor infections, and if you do fall ill, you tend to suffer less and recover more quickly. Many people continue using acupuncture as an effective form of preventative medicine.
Currently parts of Acupuncture are being used by Physio’s and in hospitals although this is only for a point specific relief of a part of the body and does not rebalance the whole body or ‘meridians’ which run through the body which traditional acupuncture is designed for.
People experience acupuncture needles differently. Some patients feel no pain at all when the needles are inserted, and some patients experience minimal pain. Once the needles are in place, there is no pain felt.
